Have you ever heard the saying: planning your vacation is the best part? It may sound a little crazy, but it’s actually true! To an extent, that is. Sure, your actual vacation can be exciting, relaxing, and the perfect escape from reality. However, the planning part is just as important. No, I don’t just mean looking online for great deals…. but thinking about your trip and getting excited about it.
Studies show that when people plan something in advance, they are more excited when the actual event happens. This is especially true when it comes to a vacation. While those last-minute deals have an unbeatable price, you won’t have much time to mentally prepare for it. Planning in advance allows you to think about yourself on the trip. So, even though you’re still going through your day-to-day life, you’re able to get pumped for the future.
Just think about it. When you book a vacation early, you start looking online for information. You search for the best prices. You look for fun attractions and activities that you can do. You tell your co-workers that you’re going away. You countdown the days until your actual trip. You start buying clothes that you will wear on vacation. You imagine yourself on vacation, having the best time of your life. See what a difference planning your vacation makes?
That’s right, planning your vacation isn’t just about taking care of the details. It is more about getting yourself psyched. With our everyday lives so busy and full of endless stress and responsibility, sometimes you need something to look forward to. A vacation is the perfect thing! You will be getting ready to have fun. This is a great thing to think about…especially if your boss has been breathing down your neck lately.
If you’re thinking about taking a vacation, don’t skip over the planning process. Yes, you need to take care of all of the details. Flights, hotels, transportation, and so on will all need to be considered. Don’t forget to focus on the more exciting aspects of your vacation as well. You know, the fun ones! Plan what you’re going to wear, talk about the pool at your hotel, or think about some of the things that you are dying to see during your trip. This is one great way to get excited.
Another tip? Be sure to communicate regularly with your travel companion. Call them, text them, email them. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just stay in touch! Send them a picture of the beach you’ll be frequenting or a dress that you’re thinking about buying. Or, why not go out to lunch and start talking about some of the details? Just talking about your trip will help both of you stay energized for the upcoming getaway.
The next time you wish you could skip over planning your next vacation, don’t! Enjoy the process. Not only can it be a lot of fun, but it can also help you get excited for everything you’re about to experience.
